In a special article to PHLSportsNation, we are pleased to present an in-depth look at the G League, particularly the Philadelphia 76ers’ G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.
If you watched the NBA Finals at all in June, you may not have realized that before Raptors forward Pascal Siakam won an NBA championship and the Most Improved Player award, he spent an entire season in the G League with affiliate team Raptors 905.
The G League has, for a long time, been seen as a holding ground for players on teams with limited NBA roster spots. The league has struggled with low attendance numbers and limited coverage from the media. Even with an increasing number of success stories, marketing the G League as a high-tier professional league remains a challenge.
With increased investment in G-League franchises and more demand for developmental space, things seem to be changing.
We sat down with Delaware Blue Coats General Manager Matt Lilly at the brand new 76ers Fieldhouse in July. He has been GM since the hiring of Elton Brand by the 76ers in September of 2018.
