If you’re in the market for a VR headset then you have a lot of different options to check out. It’s not just a matter of pointing at one and knowing that you’re getting everything that you want out of it.

If you want the headset that’s going to suit your needs then you need to do some research.

Whether you’re using it to play the latest AAA titles or just to play VR porn games, each set has its own benefits and downsides.

Here are four of the best headsets to look at for 2021.

Oculus Quest 2

The Oculus Quest 2 is the next step for Oculus. They were one of the first VR companies on the block and they’ve always known what they’re doing. This new Quest 2 device is all about letting you get up and walk around the room. It’s not tethered to your PC unless you want it to be. That makes it one of the most comprehensive VR devices in one small package.

It’s great for any PC gamer that hates getting caught up in cables and wires. You never have to worry about tripping when there’s nothing connecting you to your computer. On top of that, you’re getting the highest resolution of any headset on the market. It’s 1920×1832 per eye and that’s perfect for your immersion.

PlayStation VR

You just can’t overlook the PlayStation VR. This is a set that’s about as affordable as they come. That’s because Sony really wants you to have one. They’re actively pushing into VR gaming and making it attainable for everyone is in their best interests. Of course, getting this headset also means that you need a PlayStation console as well as a PlayStation camera.

They’re all sold as a bundle for the PS4 with the PS5 promising its own upgraded VR set in the near future. It’s the easiest to use and all of the hard work of getting it installed and functioning is already done for you. If you like things to be simple, you can’t go wrong here.

HTC Vive Cosmos

Yet another upgrade, the HTC Vive Cosmos makes a lot of improvements to its previous design. It has a higher resolution, but it’s done away with its forward-facing camera. You get a motion tracker instead and it does a much better job of showing you what’s in front of you. It’s great at incorporating your own body into your gaming.

The only drawback here is the price tag. It’s much more than the Quest 2 and you still end up being tethered to your PC. It’s a give and take that only you can figure out for yourself if it comes down to these two headsets when you’re ready to pull the trigger and get your rig.

Valve Index

Finally, we come to the Valve Index. This is a headset with the highest cost, but you can cut it down if you have the right gear already. It lets you use things like the HTC Vive base station rather than buying a brand new one. You can also provide your own motion controllers to make it all even cheaper.

What really makes this headset worth looking at is that it’s built to work with Valve. You never have to worry about compatibility. You’ll have a vast selection of games to choose from at any given time and it all comes with a high refresh rate of 120Hz. It’s certainly worthy of its spot on a list of the best gaming headsets of 2021.
