Let’s get ready to rumble. It is the season for cheers, tears, and whole lotta chaos.
March Madness is finally here.

We surveyed more than 1,000 basketball fans about their betting and bracket plans for the NCAA Tournament this year.

We found that basketball fans are investing more than their hearts in March Madness.

Nearly one-third (27%) are putting some money on the games. Our survey found 67% of people are planning to play it safe and keep their bets below $50.

Other fans are really going for the gold. 4% said they’re going to drop more than $250 on the NCAA Tournament this year. We’re sending good vibes your way.

2022 March Madness Bracket

Many fans are trying to create the perfect bracket, if only for bragging rights. The chance of choosing all the winners spot on is pretty low. We’re not joking. It’s one in 9.2 quintillions. Basically, you’re more likely to become a pro-basketball player than make the perfect bracket. One can dream.

43% of fans are planning to whip out their bracket in 30 minutes or less. On the other end, one in ten fans are overachievers and are budgeting more than two hours for their bracket. Nearly one-third (27%) are hoping to boost their luck by making more than one. Hey, can’t hurt right?

People are torn about the best way to choose a winner. 47% say they choose teams based on win/loss records. Others rely less on the numbers and more on their gut. 46% told us they go by instinct or a total guess. A small, but bold group of people (5%) say they choose based on the team colors or even mascot. You do you.

People are fiercely passionate about their final product. One in ten basketball fans told us they’ve actually gotten into an argument with friends over their brackets.

Fans are also dreaming up a Cinderella story. 45% of people think an underdog will make it to the Final Four, and a quarter of people say they’ll go all the way to the Finals. We just hope the clock doesn’t strike midnight before it happens.

March Madness and Work

March Madness Odds

In a perfect world, we would get the entire month of March off to enjoy March Madness. Diehard fans are planning to get their basketball fixed no matter what. 29% admitted to us that they will be “multitasking” and watching the tournament while working. 15% even confess they get less work done during the NCAA Tournament.

When it comes down to it, most fans are planning to watch an average of 10 games. A quarter of people are only planning to tune in for the big finale. Some people we surveyed are actually sick of the madness. 26% of people say the tournament has gotten too big. We beg to differ.

March Madness Bracket Predictions

Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty: the predictions.

Fans we surveyed are betting big on Duke, Gonzaga, Auburn, and Baylor. They say the teams will make it all the way to the Final Four. As for the Finals, fans believe Duke will duke it out against Gonzaga. (You see what we did there?)

As for the winner, fans are torn. Our survey has Gonzaga coming out on top, but only by a very, very slim margin (25% to 24%). So, who knows? That’s up to you to decide. Best of luck!
