Baker Mayfield starts for Carolina Panthers and passes his first important test

Welcome to week 1 of the 2022-2023 NFL Season. Football is finally back (I do not count preseason as being back)! If this is the first time reading one of my articles, welcome to my weekly picks blog! I will give you guys’ predictions for every game in the NFL each week. I will provide predictions in three ways: Straight up (Picking the game’s winner), ATS (Against the Spread), and Over/Under of the total. Then, I will give my three best bets every week in more in-depth, and those will only be ATS; one of them will be my Greene Guarantee of the week. Last Year I had a pretty successful season going

Straight: 177-94-1Spread: 144-128-3O/U: 140-128-4.

So without further ado, let’s get into it!

Best Bets for Week 1

Best bet record last year was 34-26 (4-2 in the playoffs)

1. Baltimore Ravens (-7) vs. Detriot Lions

Last year was the first time in the Lamar Jackson era that they didn’t make the postseason; revenge season is incoming. Not only that, but I expect a motivated Lamar due to him not yet receiving that massive contract extension he deserves.  The Ravens also match extremely well vs. the Jets. The Jets allowed the 4th most rushing yards in the NFL last season while the Ravens ranked 3rd in rushing yards. The Ravens also give up virtually nothing on the ground as they were 1st in rushing yards allowed last season. That will not be a good formula for Joe Flacco, who starts due to Zach Wilson’s knee injury. The Ravens are 5-1 ATS in their last six in Week 1 and 2-5 ATS in their last seven versus the AFC. Baltimore is 3-8 ATS in the previous 11 as a favorite.

Meanwhile, the Jets are 1-5 ATS in their previous six in Week 1 and 6-20-1 ATS in the previous 27 in September. New York is 1-4 ATS in their last five as a home underdog.

The Ravens improved secondary, combined with the Jet’s inability to stop the run, makes this a perfect matchup for Baltimore. Lamar starts his MVP campaign with an easy victory.

2. Green Bay Packers (-1.5) Vs. Minnesota Vikings

All offseason, I have heard the same thing; this is the year the Packers take a step back and the Vikings take over the NFC North. Not so fast, my friend (In my best Lee Corso voice). I understand Devante Adams is no longer with the Packers but let me remind everyone what Rodgers’s record is without Mr. Adams in his career; 10-1; that’s pretty damn good. While I believe the Vikings will be a threat, there is too much to change in a short time for new Head Coach Kevin O’Connell. The Packers still have a top 5 defensive unit in the NFL, and the Vikings have a lot of issues on the defensive side of the ball, especially in the secondary. The Packers are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 vs. NFC and 1-4 ATS in their last five games. The over is 6-2 in Packer’s last eight games overall. The over is 7-1 in Viking’s last eight games overall. The underdog is 4-1 ATS in their last five meetings. The baddest man on the planet once again proves who runs the NFC North.

3. Carolina Panthers (-1.5) Vs. Cleveland Browns (Greene’s Guarantee)

Greene’s Guarantees are back, and we are starting with a revenge game. Baker Mayfield versus his old team, the Cleveland Browns. If you have read any of my preseason blogs, you would know I am all over the Carolina Panthers this season. The Browns, of course, will be without Deshaun Watson, and Jacoby Brisset will be the starter. Brisset faces a very underrated defense; as people forget, before all the injuries, the Panthers had the best defense in football through four weeks. Combine that with a healthy Christian McCaffery, and the Panthers might make some noise this season. The Browns also have a lot of new pieces as they lost their top 3 WR from last season. The Browns are 6-15-1 ATS in their last 22 in Week 1 and 2-6 ATS in their last eight overall. Cleveland is 2-8 ATS in their last ten as a road favorite. Meanwhile, the Panthers are 4-0 ATS in their last four in September and 7-19-1 ATS in their last 27 at home. Carolina is 2-12 ATS in their last 14 overall. Baker proves he is a huge upgrade over Sam Darnold, and he gets a huge win over his old team, I guarantee it.
