Who Will Be the Jaxon Smith-Njigba of 2026?

The offseason may have only just begun, but with free agency winding down and the draft still weeks away, it isn’t a bad time to assemble some early predictions for the 2026 season.

In this article, let’s look at some of the best receiving candidates to take a leap into full-blown superstardom next season.

Last year, Jaxon Smith-Njigba (JSN) ascended to the top tier of NFL wide receivers, increasing his receptions total by 19, his yards total by 663, and his touchdowns total by 4 from the season prior.

It was a significant leap for the young Seahawks receiver, but not one uncharacteristic of third and fourth-year players. Over the last five years, there have been countless examples of young receivers taking similar jumps and achieving top-five receiving numbers. Even last year, JSN wasn’t the only one, with Puka Nacua and George Pickens also seeing massive increases in production.

The year before, it was Ja’Marr Chase and Drake London; the year before that, it was CeeDee Lamb and Amon-Ra St. Brown; and the year before that, it was Justin Jefferson and A.J. Brown. And the common denominator among all these players is that each was in their third or fourth season.

This year, a new batch of receivers will be entering the threshold for hitting their ceiling, and it’s our job to figure out which players will shoot the highest.

Below, I’ve listed a few candidates that seem to fit the bill.

Zay Flowers // Baltimore

Despite being an undersized receiver, Zay Flowers has quietly improved in each of his three seasons in the league. Flowers has been the top receiver on a top-11 offense all three years, reaching 1000 yards in the last two.

Flowers may be small, but who’s to say he doesn’t have top-10 receiver potential? One of the best receivers of the last ten years, Tyreek Hill, is of similar stature to that of former greats such as Antonio Brown and Steve Smith. If Flowers can simply improve upon his red zone numbers, he will seemingly become a full-package receiver.

Ladd McConkey // LA Chargers

Similar to JSN through his first two years, Ladd McConkey has been primarily relegated to the slot thus far. Now, with Keenan Allen seemingly gone for good, and Quentin Johnston being too inconsistent to this point, it could be McConkey’s time to fully embrace a top receiver role on a blossoming young offense.

Given McConkey’s elite speed and strong route-running abilities, he should be a good fit in Mike McDaniel’s offensive scheme. After showing flashes in 2024, McConkey seems poised to put it all together in 2026.

Malik Nabers // NY Giants

Third-year player and generational prospect on an up-and-coming offense, Malik Nabers is probably the most obvious candidate for an ascension in 2026. Nabers already has a 100-reception season to his name, and now, after missing almost the entirety of 2025 with an injury, it seems apparent Nabers is due for a return to the spotlight.

With Jaxson Dart entering his second season and John Harbaugh taking over as the Giants‘ new head coach, the stars have aligned for the young talent, and it’s only a matter of time before Nabers sits atop the receiving charts.

Rome Odunze // Chicago

Through the first couple of games of 2025, it felt like Rome Odunze’s breakout had arrived. But after an injury-plagued late-season campaign, Odunze’s 2025 would stand only as a marginal improvement on his rookie season.

Now, Odunze enters his third season with an ever-improving Caleb Williams and a second-year head coach in Ben Johnson. The Bears have also thinned out at receiver, trading D.J. Moore and losing Olamide Zaccheus in free agency (two of Williams’ top five targets from last year). Therefore, it should be expected that Odunze is treated as the team’s top receiver in 2026.

Parker Washington // Jacksonville

Parker Washington might not have the size or high draft capital that other receivers on this list have, but that doesn’t mean he should be ignored under Grant Udinski‘s offense. Washington was not just good through the latter half of 2025; he was the best receiver on a top-10 offense.

With trade rumors still swirling around Brian Thomas, Travis Hunter coming off a season-ending injury, and Jakobi Meyers entering his 30-year-old season, Washington is poised for a big role yet again. Who’s to say Washington can’t turn things up to 11 with Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars?
